Diamond Interchange on Ashford – Dunwoody Resulting in Fewer Wrecks

I read some encouraging news in the Atlanta Journal Constitution last week. According to that paper, the Diamond Interchange that the Department of Transportation installed at the intersection of Ashford – Dunwoody and I-285 has caused a decrease in wrecks at the formerly infamous confluence. And not just a little – figures show a 30% decrease.
The project that took three years and cost $5.5 million to build is paying dividends by allowing a series of unencumbered left turns. The left onto I-285 was formerly particulary hazardous to your car’s bumpers.
Still, there are a few kinks to be ironed out. For instance, the quicker traffic flow has affected other intersections farther along Ashford-Dunwoody, particularly Ashford-Dunwoody and Hammond Road.
Overall, the project appears to be a success. I know from antidotal evidence that residents of the area are high on the change.
It makes you wonder what other interchanges would benefit from a diamond interchange. My vote is for I-285 and Roswell Rd.
